The Stabyhoun originated in the northeastern region of the Netherlands, where it was used as a hunting and guard dog. Its name is believed to derive from the Dutch words meaning “stand by me dog”. It is an excellent retriever, especially in the water, so if you have a pool or live near a lake, it will be in seventh heaven. Like most sporting breeds, he is gentle, tolerant and eager to please.
