Springador

Springador

INTRODUCTION

The Springador is a mongrel dog, a cross between the Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever breeds. Loyal, gentle and intelligent, these puppies have inherited some of the best qualities of their parents. The Springer is known to be a devoted family dog with a pleasant disposition and friendly attitude. This mixed breed is playful and very intelligent, which means they are also suitable for becoming working dogs. However, they can suffer from separation anxiety if left alone all day; they are also sometimes reputed to be more suited to living with adults than with children.

HIGHLIGHTS

Springadors are mixed breed dogs. The main coat colours of the Springador are black, brown and golden. In terms of grooming, the dog’s coat should be brushed once a week, which will prevent any matting problems that may require an expensive visit to the vet or groomers. The Springador is an energetic and active dog that requires about one hour of exercise daily. Because of the dog’s innate intelligence, you will also want to include games and tasks that stimulate its mind as well as its body. The Springador can work well with children, although it is a mixed breed that definitely does best with older adults. If you have children and are thinking of adding a Springador to your family, make sure that both parties are properly socialised from the start. In general, Springadors are fine with other pets, although they may see smaller animals as prey. The Springador is not a dog that does well being left alone all day. In fact, if the mixed breed does not receive sufficient attention and human contact, negative personality traits and behaviours may emerge.

HISTORY

As a newer designer dog breed, you won’t find much in the way of the verified verified history on the Springador. But if you look at the parent breeds, you can get a good idea of the dog’s heritage – the Labrador Retriever hails from Canada, where they were originally employed by fishermen to help bring back fish that might have escaped. These days the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the United States, when it comes to the Springer Spaniel, this is a breed that comes from Spain and was introduced to other European countries by the Romans. Springer Spaniels have a history of being used as hunting dogs tasked with recovery duties. Although the Springador started out as a designer breed, some ended up in shelters or in the care of rescue groups. Consider adoption if you decide this is the breed for you!
