This is because their dense, curly coat could almost be mistaken for wool, especially if it is white or cream coloured. One might think that its coat requires a lot of work to maintain, but in fact, brushing this pet too often can smooth out its curls. However, they should be combed at least once a week to prevent matting or felting. Some Selkirk Rex cats have short coats with tight curls, while others have long, more wavy coats.
Selkirk Rex cats are medium to large in size, can weigh up to 16 pounds, and come in almost every colour and pattern. Their rounded heads, large eyes and pointed ears are hard to resist. All eye colours are acceptable. Their curly fur is not the only thing that makes Selkirk Rex cats special. These furry beauties are also appreciated for their curious, cheerful and friendly character. Selkirk Rex cats are an intelligent breed that love to play and/or just hang out with their owners. Their wavy fur makes them more cuddly, but don’t expect them to be lazy lap cats, as these felines like to keep busy. Selkirk cats will also happily share their home with other cats or dogs if properly introduced. In general, Selkirk Rex cats have an affectionate and well-balanced personality.
