Rottador

Rottador

INTRODUCTION

The Rottador is a mongrel dog, a cross between the Rottweiler and Labrador Retriever dog breeds. Large, energetic and loyal, these puppies inherit some of the best qualities of both their parents. Despite their unfortunate status as a designer breed, you can find these mixed-breed dogs in breed-specific shelters and rescues, so remember to adopt. Rottadors are a great choice for a variety of owners: house or flat, single-person household or large family. Affectionate and loyal, this dog would quickly become almost anyone’s best friend. These dogs are protective and make excellent watchdogs. However, they should not be left alone for too long, or they may become bored and destructive.

HIGHLIGHTS

Rottadors are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebred like their Rottweiler or Labrador Retriever parents. Although they are not a good choice for allergy sufferers, their coat is very easy to care for. A good brushing a week will probably be sufficient. Rottadors tend to like children, especially if they have been raised with them. When they are around children, especially younger ones, they should be supervised because they are very large and strong. When Rottadors are raised with other dogs and cats, they generally get along well with them. They are highly trainable, and thrive on positive reinforcement. HISTORY

The Rottador dog breed may have existed naturally over the years, but designer breeders began intentionally mixing Rottweilers and Labradors in North America, probably in the 1990s. Breeders wanted to mix the two parent breeds to minimise the health problems that plague many purebreds, as well as to create the ultimate family companion and guard dog. Although Rottadors began as a designer breed, some have ended up in shelters or in the care of rescue groups. Consider adoption if you decide this is the dog for you. Check local shelters, look for Rottador rescues, or check with breed-specific Rottweiler and Labrador rescues, as they sometimes help rehome mixed breeds.Rottadors are recognised by:ACHC = American Canine Hybrid ClubDBR = Designer Breed RegistryDDDKC = Designer Dogs Kennel ClubDRA = Dog Registry of America, Inc.IDCR = International Designer Canine Registry®.
