The Portuguese Podengo Pequeno is a purebred dog from Portugal and is the smallest of the three size classes of Portuguese Podengo that do not interbreed. The Portuguese Podengo Pequenos is one of three size classes of Portuguese Podengo breeds, but all of them originate from the southern border of the country of Portugal. The lineage of the Portuguese Podengo goes back to the ancient Romans and Phoenicians, almost as far back as 600 BC. In early times, the Pequeno was a rabbit hunter for the people. In the 15th century, Portuguese Podengo Pequenos were taken aboard ships bound for the Americas.
