Peekapoo

Peekapoo

INTRODUCTION

The Peekapoo is a hybrid dog breed, a cross between the Pekingese and Poodle breeds. Although these dogs started out as a designer breed, you may still find them in the care of shelters and rescue groups. Adopt. These dogs are loyal and affectionate and can be quite protective of the people they love, which is often very funny in such a small dog. Affectionate and playful, these puppies get along well with all members of the family. They can even be great companions for novice pet parents. Whether you live in a flat or a large house with a yard, Peekapoos will feel right at home. They’ll be happy as long as they can be around you. Just don’t leave them home alone for too long during the day, or you may see signs of separation anxiety.

HISTORY

The Peekapoo is one of the oldest hybrid, or designer, breeds. It was developed in the 1950s by crossing a Pekingese with a miniature or toy poodle. The aim was to produce a dog that would not have a lot of hair and would be suitable for people with allergies. The Peekapoo gained popularity in the early 1960s, about the same time as the Cockapoo, and despite the Peekapoo’s popularity, there is no breed club. The hybrid has remained largely a first generation crossbreed; the parents are usually Pekingese and Poodles. There is no indication that multi-generational breeding will occur, but never say never.Because of its small, lap-friendly size and sweetly affectionate temperament, the Peekapoo has maintained a large following.
