Chi Chi

Chi Chi

INTRODUCTION

The Chi Chi is a mixed breed dog, a cross between the Chihuahua and Chinese Crested dog breeds. Small, energetic and alert, these puppies have inherited some of the best qualities of their parents. Despite their unfortunate status as a designer breed, you can find these mixed breed dogs in breed-specific shelters and rescues. So remember to adopt. These spunky pups make excellent flat dogs for active urban dwellers, but can thrive in larger family homes under the right conditions. The Chi Chi always has something on his mind, and he’s not afraid to let you know it with a few yelps. If you are looking for an energetic dog that is intelligent, alert and loves to stick like glue to his favourite human, the Chi Chi may be the dog for you.

HISTORY

The Chi Chi dog breed may have existed naturally over the years, but designer breeders began intentionally mixing Chihuahuas and Chinese Crested dogs in the late 1990s or early 2000s, probably in North America. Breeders wanted to mix the two parent breeds, combining the lively character of the Chihuahua with the more allergy-friendly hairless appearance of the Chinese Crested, and continued to create Chi Chis as the demand for mixed breed puppies increased. If you decide that the Chi Chi is the right dog for you, consider adopting it. Check with local shelters, look for Chi Chi rescues, or check with breed-specific Chinese Crested or Chihuahua rescues, as they sometimes take in mixed-breed dogs and find homes for them.
