Boxmatian

Boxmatian

INTRODUCTION

The Boxer is a mongrel dog, a cross between the Boxer and Dalmatian dog breeds. Playful, silly and protective, these puppies inherit some of the best qualities of their two parents. You can find these mixed breed dogs at breed-specific shelters and rescues, so remember to always adopt. The Boxmatian is like a cartoon dog come to life. They have a larger than life personality and love to play and goof around. If you have one of these dogs in your home, you will have a good laugh. If trained properly, this mixed breed is affectionate and loyal to their humans and will take on a guardian role. But beware! Proper training from the beginning is essential to counteract any aggressive tendencies and destructive behavior. For these reasons, it may not be the best dog for a family with young children. Boxmatians also require a lot of exercise and are not apartment dogs on any level. See below for all the traits and facts about the Boxer mixed dog breed.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Boxer is a mixed breed dog. They are not pure breeds like their boxer or Dalmatian parents. Dalmatians are known for their distinctive spotted coat, but not all Boxers necessarily acquire the spotted trait. The breed’s coat can be black, white, or spotted. In general, the Boxer is a dog that prefers to be in warmer rather than colder climates. The Boxer is a dog with exceptionally high energy and exercise needs. If he cannot commit to a minimum of one hour of exercise each day, he runs the risk of causing weight problems. Boxers are not the best dogs for homes with children or other pets, but with early socialization and training, they can be loyal and protective members of the family. This mixed breed is very active. If you are not an outdoors person and do not have access to large areas where the dog can run, swim and play safely, then the Boxmatian is probably not the dog for you.

HISTORY

Best guesses suggest that the Boxer originated somewhere in Europe, although exact information on the history of this mixed breed is scarce. If we focus on the parent breeds, the Boxer breed began as a working farm dog and fighting dog in the 19th century. It also evolved into a guard dog role. Since then, their fighting tendencies have been eliminated and they are now wonderful, loving companions for any family. As for the Dalmatian, it is speculated that it was first seen in Croatia and dates back to the Middle Ages. At various points in the breed’s evolution, it has been known as a carriage dog, military canine, shepherd, and even circus dog. The Dalmatian has come to be known as a designer dog breed, but many of them unfortunately end up in shelters. Therefore, consider contacting local rescue groups and shelters if you are thinking of adding the Boxmatian to your home.
