The Boglen Terrier is a mixed breed dog, a cross between the Beagle and Boston Terrier dog breeds. These dogs are known to be playful, brave, loyal, and often stubborn. This lovable, happy-go-lucky mix has proven to be quite popular with owners of diverse backgrounds. Boglen Terriers are also called Boston Beagle Terriers or Boggle. However, confusion often arises, as Boggle is another name for a Boxer and Beagle mix. Despite their unfortunate status as a designer breed, you can find these mixed breed dogs in shelters and rescues. So remember to adopt. These adorable pups prefer large families because there are more people to interact with and they don’t like to be left alone for long periods of time. They are considered a high-energy puppy, so they are best suited for active adults or families with lots of people to interact and play with. They will thrive in a home with a backyard, but will also be content to live in an apartment as long as the puppy can burn off energy with regular walks and trips to the dog park. Be sure to have a secure yard, as they are prone to tracking and roaming.
Bolgen Terriers are mixed breed dogs. They are not pure breeds like their Boston Terrier or Beagle parents. Although one of the most predominant colors of Bolgen Terriers is brindle, they can also be brindle and white, black and white, brown and white, and rarely tri-colored. Bolgen Terriers tend to have a short coat and are not considered allergy friendly, although their coat is very easy to groom. Because of their pack dog heritage, Boglen Terriers enjoy company and do not like to be left alone. Another dog or even a cat can help satisfy their companionship needs. Boglen Terriers have high energy levels. Make sure your dog gets at least one good half to one hour walk a day, with some active play sessions and shorter walks mixed in. They are usually noisy only when the doorbell rings or they see something outside, but rarely howl like their Beagle parent.
The Boglen Terrier dog breed may have existed naturally over the years, but designer breeders began intentionally mixing Beagles and Boston Terriers in the late 1990s or early 2000s, probably in North America. Breeders wanted to mix the two parent breeds to create a silly and lovable family watchdog. They also wanted to make a healthy mixed breed. This mix helped to broaden the Boston Terrier’s short muzzle to alleviate respiratory problems and also to reduce the risk of eye infections to which they are prone. The Boglen has proven to be a hardy mix that is gaining popularity. Breeders continued to create Boglen Terriers as the demand for mixed breed puppies increased. Although the Boglen Terrier began as a designer breed, some have ended up in shelters or in the care of rescue groups. Consider adopting if you decide this is the breed for you. Check local shelters, look for Boglen Terrier rescues, or check with breed-specific Beagle and Boston Terrier rescues, as they sometimes accept mixed breeds.
